Have you ever considered that an external disk feeling very slow may be caused by a bad, cheap, or just faulty cable?

What's more, the USB standard is highly complex, there are many cable types with different certified speeds and abilities, unfortunately.

When you catalog large disks with NeoFinder on macOS, any kind of hardware problem will definitely show up, as NeoFinder will read the disk structure, and possibly also a lot of the data files on the disk, depending on your Cataloging Settings: https://www.cdfinder.de/guide/3/3.3/cat ... tings.html

Fortunately, there is now a nice piece of free software that can help you checking the cables you use, and it is called WhatCable

It is open source, free, and definitely a tool to look into, if you have external drives on your Mac!
